STATUS: 5 hour work day, as needed
REPORTS TO: Director/Assistant Director(s) of Transportation
POSITION SUMMARY: First and foremost duty shall be the safe transportation of pupils from their homes to. and from school. In carrying out this duty, every driver shall endeavor to gain and maintain the respect of each child. Drivers shall be responsible to the Superintendent of Schools through their Supervisor .
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Driver shall check daily the condition of the bus including brakes, steering gear, lights, signaling devices, emergency doors and tires. Have all defects corrected. When a defect is discovered, a driver shall properly fill out and sign the Bus Defect Card available at the transportation office and repair shop.
- Keep the bus clean both inside and out, especially the lettering and signals.
- The driver is responsible to keep his/her bus at the proper fuel level.
- Driver must be able to secure discipline for purpose of safety.
- At the beginning of each school term and as many times thereafter as may be necessary, each driver shall give instructions and practice to each of his/her routes which include instructions in the location, use and operation of the emergency door, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and opening window as a means of escape in case of fire or accident.
- The driver shall make every effort to run the bus on the bus route and on the time schedule as established. At no time should a bus route be run ahead of schedule. Pupils and parents expect a regular and satisfactory bus service.
- Drivers shall make and file such reports as may be required.
- Drivers shall attend safety meetings as required.
- Driver shall assume control of the children while they are being transported and shall require from them respectable and orderly behavior. Particular attention should be given to the care and protection of the smaller pupils.
- Drivers shall know and study Missouri School Bus Driver's Manual in regards to bus driving standards and requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Driver must be 21 years of age or older at the date of employment.
- A driver must be in good physical and mental health, free from communicable disease and have normal use of both hands, both feet, both eyes, and both ears. The driver shall submit annually to a physical examination by a licensed physician designated by the local Board of Education and present the signed physical examination to the employer. Certification of the Missouri School Bus Driver Instructor Course.
- Ability to work with students, parents and professional personnel.
